This Month’s Spotlight

The Plutonium Blond by John Zakour & Lawrence Ganem

Okay… so I was wandering the bookstore, looking for something light to read on a recent trip to NYC, I saw this book and remembered reading a book that was later in this series, called The Radioactive Redhead. I remembered it as a lightweight, kinda fun Sci-Fi novel, closer to “Everybody Poops”, than to “War and Peace”. It’s a double novel (so there is actually a second book bound into this printing called “The Doomsday Brunette”, that I haven’t read yet) so I figured it would fill my free time, so I picked it up.

This isn’t exactly revolutionary literature. As much as I hate to describe an object as “fun”, that’s just what this book is. It’s a quick read, it’s like an 80’s detective flick, tons of one-liners, and lots of gratuitous action. The plot is about as thin as you can get, and the authors tend to take some pretty liberal jumps in order to build in a little twist. To me it seemed like they twisted the plot in order to justify a variety of fight bits.

Overall, it wasn’t a terrible book, as long as you go into this with very little expectations, then you probably won’t be let down. It’s a trash novel.

Here’s part of the publisher’s attempt to seduce you:

I AM THE LAST FREE-LANCE PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR ON EARTH.My name is Zachary Nixon Johnson. The year is 2057 and, after a handful of species-altering upheavals, Earth-shattering cataclysms, history-changing extraterrestrial contacts, and pop-culture disasters, the world is now a pretty safe place. But, of course, as in times past, people still run the shades-of-gray gamut from good to evil. There are still cops and robbers, saints and sinners, voters and politicians. And every once in a while some crazy thing happens that threatens all of society, all of humanity, even the entire space-time continuum.

Give it a shot.

Any Volunteers?

We are still looking for volunteers to read for the children.  We can work around your schedule.
